Whiteshell Provincial Park
Sewage Disposal Study

Details
Parks, Wastewater
Whiteshell Provincial Park

JRCC conducted an assessment of the Brereton Lake Campground and Resort sewage collection, treatment and disposal system. Recommendations were provided for upgrading.

The site conditions and quantity of flow did not favour a disposal field, therefore other disposal options were reviewed. Secondary treatment, such as biofiltration, is required to meet provincial water quality guidelines.

A dispersal area to a riparian area with final wetland polishing was recommended for effluent disposal. This option would also lend itself to the construction of interpretive public walking trails leading off the Trans Canada Trail.

An interpretive walking trail would help to educate the public on the importance of treated effluent management and how it affects our natural environment.

Upgrading also resulted in a means to reduce water consumption, providing a “green solution” for the campground.
