JRCC provided engineering services to complete a water system Feasibility Study for Animakee Wa Zhing #37, which is comprised of two settlement areas – Regina Bay and Windigo Island. The study was completed to determine a reliable, long-term, and cost-effective solution to supply the communities with potable water to meet current and 20 year needs.

The existing Regina Bay water treatment plant was housed in a sea can. During JRCC’s inspection, extensive leaks were discovered in the distribution system, which have since been repaired. JRCC analyzed several solutions for Regina Bay, including connecting to an existing water treatment plant nearby. Following community consultation, a new WTP was recommended for Regina Bay consisting of UF membrane filtration with enhanced coagulation, chlorination and UV disinfection.

Windigo Island had a membrane plant that had stopped working. JRCC worked with Delco Water to provide a new membrane system as an interim solution to remove the Boil Water Advisory. The long-term solution is to replace the existing WTP with a new plant and additional piping, and provide fire protection via dry hydrants. Since completion of the Feasibility Study, JRCC worked with the First Nation to complete upgrades to the Regina Bay water treatment plant that would allow the Boil Water Advisory to be lifted, restoring safe water service to the community.
