THM, Iron, Manganese Study with Pilot Plant Testing
JRCC conducted a biological and chemical assessment of the well water at the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation water treatment plant (WTP). Based on assessment results, multiple stage chlorine dioxide and filtration pilot testing was initiated. The project’s duration was more than one year and included water quality assessment studies and several stages of trials.
The plant previously had high iron and manganese levels and high THM counts. Chlorine dioxide was shown to be successful in eliminating THM concerns, as well as in oxidizing iron and manganese. The project also included a thorough review and assessment of chlorine dioxide generation methods.
JRCC provided testing/piloting protocols for THM removal that would provide design and process alternatives to reduce THMs to below regulatory limits.
